We know that you can find many articles with numerous reasons to construct or buy and ultimately live in a tiny home, but we think these are the best reasons to make the move:
A Tiny Home Allows Flexibility
After purchasing their dream home, whether that was through a contract for deed deal or a traditionally financed purchase, many people acquire what is called “buyer’s remorse.”
Whether you just moved out of an expensive Chicago 3-bedroom apartment in order to lower your monthly expenses, or if you downsized from a Portland home to simplify your life for other reasons, many people may agonize and try to rethink their home purchase after their signature ink is dry and by then it’s too late to turn back.
Then, they realize that they have tied themselves to a 15 or 30-year mortgage, and have to get top dollar in a sale plus a Realtor’s commission just to break even.
With a tiny home, these issues aren’t nearly as severe. Tiny homes are obviously less expensive than standard homes, and even if you have to walk away from a $10,000 investment, it wouldn’t necessarily ruin you like a $500,000 investment would. Furthermore, if you did have to move, you could probably keep making your small monthly tiny house payment until you were able to sell it.
Move It
Many tiny homes are portable. Of course, you would have to disconnect electric and plumbing connections—if you included them—but then your home could be put on a trailer and moved to a new location. Sure, you can move a standard sized home, but that is an expensive and complicated undertaking.
Great Resale Value
Of course, we can’t guarantee that you can sell your tiny home for more than you paid for it the minute you move in, but you very well may be buying in early. Pundits tell us that tiny homes are the future of congested city real estate and your investment could skyrocket in the coming years.
You Are Making an Important Statement
World population growth is rapidly increasing, and while there are still plenty of open spaces, big and popular cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and even Austin, TX lack sufficient space for unbridled growth.
When you commit to a tiny house, you are going to be part of the solution instead of the problem since you will be able to put down roots even in someone’s backyard. You won’t need a plot of land that is scrubbed, plumbed and made ready for construction. Your home will take minimal energy to construct and will use minimal energy after it is built. You will be doing your part to save the planet!
So, before you commit to that four-bedroom mansion or that off the grid ranch, consider a luxurious tiny home. Make the world your backyard!
